Carol Lei is a product designer based in New York City. She works between systems,
tools, and emerging technology—turning complex ideas into clear, useful experiences.
Currently, she is a senior product designer at Mercury, leading the AI interfaces
team, thinking through design questions concerning agentic financing and automated
workflows.
Her work at Mercury began on Dashboard Experience, shaping the places customers
return to every day.
In 2022, she designed percentage-based auto-transfer rules.
In 2023, she rethought user permissions and launched
custom account access, while helping
shape a new vision and redesign for Mercury's home.
In 2024, she launched Reimbursements and contributed to a new billing and subscription
experience.
In 2025, she worked on Insights and the foundations of Mercury's next AI product,
moving between product strategy, interaction details, and the systems beneath them.
In 2021, she was a product design intern with Apple's Claris team, exploring a
reimagined
no/low-code application builder
from broad mental models to tested micro-interactions.
Away from product work, Carol draws still lifes and figures in ink and charcoal. She
hopes to animate a short film someday.
She also writes creative essays about life, art, and philosophy, and is developing a
series of short stories.
